Shinto Muso Ryu Jojutsu: Nyumon Ron
This video by Matsui Kenji Sensei, one of the leading masters of Shinto Muso Ryu, introduces students to the fundamental techniques of Shinto Muso Ryu, and shows how to correctly perform the 12 All Japan Kendo Federation Standard Jo Kata.
The All Japan Kendo Federation Standard Jo Kata were created by Shimizu Takaji Sensei, Menkyo, of the Shinto Muso Ryu in the 1960s as a way of introducing the fundamentals of the jo to the world. He chose 12 fundamental techinques that can be practiced solo, as well as creating a group of practice techinques for paired practice. In addition to selecting a number of representative kata from the syllabus of Shinto Muso Ryu that allow students for practice and gain a solid foundation inthe fundamental principles of the jo, he created two more to ensure that these 12 kata form a complete foundation in the art of the jo.
Matsui Sensei is holds the highest license possible in Shinto Muso Ryu, Menkyo. He was a student of both Shimizu Sensei and Kotofuji Sensei, making him one of the few people to learn both the Tokyo and Fukuoka lines of Shinto Muso Ryu.
